Smokers Guide to Navigating Napa

Smokers Guide to Navigating Napa

By Pierre Rogers November 6, 2015
If you ever have the opportunity travel to Northern California's Napa and Sonoma counties you have experienced firsthand how picturesque it is.  Rolling hills create a lush back drop for some of the world's greatest wine. Unfortunately Napa basically hates cigar smokers! Shocking...I know.  Napa has some very valuable acreage and these vineyards do not let you smoke (there area exceptions to that rule), however the larger, more popular vineyards will tell you no. In short, as a cigar smoker who enjoys this region of the country, I have put together a short list of places I have enjoyed a smoke.

1) A very small park in Yountville near the famous The French Laundry restuarant (one of three Micheline starred establishments in the US), offers picnic benches, placed under a few majestic redwoods. The park is right in the middle of town.  Swing by Bouchon Bakery and pick up a coffee and pastry, stroll north up the block to the park.. Its a perfect place to enjoy a cigar and is normally quite empty. Photo Credit Trip Advisor.

2) The French Laundry gardens cover 3 acres and supply 30% of the restuarants fresh produce. Peaceful and serene the gardens are a wonderful place to enjoy in between a multicourse dinner or on their own.  No better way to aid digestion than to enjoy a fine cigar. Photo Credit www.RedApplePhoto.com.
Pro tip: call ahead for the menu, to best pair your cigar choice.

3) Many of the hotels in Napa proper will allow you to smoke on property, the higher end boutique hotels in Yountville and Silverado Trail, are quite strict and normally do not allow this.   While finding a place in a beautiful and yet delicate environment as the Napa Valley cant be a bit more troublesome then usual…it's worth it.
