A Figurado is a cigar with a non-standard shape, meaning the sky is the limit on figurados. Many manufacturers like to tap into their rollers' creativity in producing a myriad of creations in this category. These cigars were so fun to "test" and it brings us great job to announce or TOP THREE Figuardos of 2016.
1.) Nat Sherman Schrader Sparky (2016): If you read our reviews, this first place award should come as no surprise! This cigar blew me away with its interesting shape and complex flavor. The draw and burn were exceptional, with the only downside being a somewhat flaky ash. The wrapper is deceiving; you anticipate something milder than the fullness you get from the Sparky. Smoking this cigar is an exercise in balance and restraint; be commended.
Score: 93 out of 100
2.) Partagas Culebras Habana-Cuba (2007): This cigar is definitely not your average Figurado. The proper way to enjoy it is to carefully unwind these (which come rolled as three) and hand two of the sticks to your friends, to be smoked together as a trio. Once this cigar celebrated its 10 year birthday, it truly started coming of age. Our common enemy, ammonia, is nearly gone and the flavor continues to mature. While the cigar is anything from straight, the burn and the draw are perfection. The flavor is representative of a true Cuban: notes of dry hay, wood, and grass; a classic Partagas blend. Our recomendation? Everyone should buy a box.
Score: 92 out of 100
3.) Fuente Fuente Opus X “Brain Hemorrhage” (2015): If you want to judge a book by its cover, or in this case a cigar by its name, this bad boy is true to the title! This pencil thin cigar is made of mainly wrapper leaf, which definitely intensifies the strength. The ultra rare "Brain Hemorrhage" tastes like you wrapped a stick of dynamite in cayenne pepper and tried to smoke it before time ran out. Your whole mouth will tingle like you're taking a bite of the famed Fugu pufferfish sushi. If you're ever looking for a new high bar in strength and spice, this is the cigar for you. And good luck finding one…
