As y'all know I travel a LOT and to make that a bit more enjoyable I scout the best spots to smoke a cigar in each of the cities I visit. Here are a few that made the top of my list
Fuente Cigar Bar, Dominican Republic- This is the single most opulent cigar bar I have ever visited. As you would expect the lounge has only the finest furnishings and decor, with the centerpiece being the enormous bar in the middle of the room. A large walk in humidor includes the rarest Fuente cigars in the world. This humidor will rival some people's entire homes and you'll need a guide to take you on a tour. Once you've selected a cigar and a cocktail, sit back and relax with live jazz. This may actually be heaven Arturo Fuente style.
Grand Havana Room, NYC - Walking into the Grand Havana Room in New York City makes you feel like a captain of industry. This large private cigar lounge sits high above the bustling thoroughfares and offers incredible views of the city. The overstuffed leather chairs are filled with the political elite, celebrities and high power execs. I'd recommend eating before or after visiting as the food is mediocre and the service is typical of New York. Since this spot is members only you'll need a hook up or you can spring for a very pricey day pass.
Bazaar at SLS Hotels, LA, CA- The SLS hotel is a small chain of ultra hight end, boutique hotels, boasting a hip modern vibe. The SLS in downtown LA is filled with celebrities and wannabes alike. The restaurant on the first floor has an amazing desert selection with more then 40 choices! The front of the restaurant has a patio often graced by celebrities and Hollywood elite and allows cigar smoking after 10pm (rare find in CA).
Grand Havana Room, LA, CA- The sister property to the afore mentioned private lounge in NYC, boasts vaulted ceilings, excellent craft cocktails and a solid lineup of cigars. The staff is some serious eye candy so enjoy! This spot is a welcome retreat from the hectic LA lifestyle. Stop in and tell them Purotrader sent you!
Cohiba Melia Hotel, Havana Cuba- This hotel is located just off the water in old Havana and brings with it the old charm and nostalgia of pre embargo Havana. The humidor is stocked with all the standards from Cohiba, Monticristo, Partagas as you would expect. A little light in limited editions and other rare cigars, but that is typical in Cuba; rare cigars are often shipped overseas to China, Switzerland and the UK. Tip the waiter the moment you walk in and ask to sit in the VIP room if its available, it's small but well appointed and covered in historical, cigar related art. Now that Jet Blue has started offering flights to Cuba, this destination is much easier to reach than ever before.
Canova, Rome Italy- This is considered one of the top ten café’s in Rome with outside seating facing the Piazza del Popolo. Amazing views, great coffee and the food! As most Italian cafés this is no exception and opens on the later side. There is a small, well stocked humidor filled with your favorite Cuban selections, in addition to a solid assortment of Davidoff cigars. While not a traditional “cigar lounge” the food, view and people watching are unrivaled. This is a must for a cigar and espresso. Take a look!
Cigar Bar Chardonnay, Tokyo, Japan- This cigar bar is located underground in the high end fashion district of Tokyo, Harajuku. Be advised the menu is not for those on a budget, so come prepared to spend some bucks. The selection of rare and vintage Cuban cigars is hands down unbelievable. The sprits menu is also nothing to sneeze at. Tokyo is an incredibly busy city and this rare open space provides a quite spot to enjoy our favorite pastime. Our friends over at Smoke and Minds visited Chardonnay, check out their review.
